Cdr. Mike’s Memo to all Members and Friends
Fall has arrived and that means Turkey, gobble, gobble, gobble!
Well, summer is now officially in the bag and It’s time to sharpen our pencils for some educational activities. Don’t get me wrong, we still have a lot of fun on the horizon.
Our earlier meeting with Coquitlam and Royal City is now seeing results in some co-ordinated activities. We saw our first joint cruise to Snug Cove on the Labour Day weekend. The weather held up and all had a great time. Fall classes have started which are being run together. The first joint VHF course has now been completed and all students passed. Boating 2 and 3 started on September 20th. This is a combined course integrating elements from both courses in an effort to make the overall course more interesting. We will be offering another VHF course in the three night format starting October 13th.
Our Thanksgiving cruise has been celebrated for over 20 years by going up to the Squamish Yacht club for the weekend. This popular event sees people gathering in the clubhouse on Saturday for pot luck appetizers. Sunday is our big dinner with the Turkey and fixings provided free of charge by our Squadron. Just bring a potluck item to share. Depending on the crowd still around on Monday morning, P/Cmdrs. will have breakfast being served to all in the clubhouse. We also put together some sort of activity for hiking, biking, shopping and touring. Cruise master Neal has also secured slips for those coming by boat. Many people come by car and stay the weekend or come for the day. We just need to know if you are coming. You need to contact, asap, Neal at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 604 298 5398.
We have a cut-off deadline of September 30th in order for this event to happen. Food needs to be ordered, etc. If we do not hear from you, we can’t assume you are coming. Please contact Neal to ensure we have enough participants to keep this great event happening.
Our National Conference is coming up at the end of October. We are looking for volunteers to help with various activities. If you have a couple of hours, please give me a call and I will give you the contact information. This event is not all business. There are a lot of fun events from the Saturday and Sunday evening dinners to day tours and free educational activities. Please check it out at www.Vancouver2016.com
